We’re so excited to introduce Bella Mulvihill, the creative mind behind Shop Meekie. If you don’t already know her, she’s a jewellery designer with an eye for texture, colour, and effortless style, and a city girl at heart in Barcelona. A nature lover, coffee enthusiast, and proud cat mum, Bella brings a playful, personal touch to everything she does. This month, we caught up with her to hear about her style philosophy, what inspires her designs, and a glimpse into life in the Spanish capital.
1. Tell us a little about yourself — the Bella beyond the jewels.
Hi! I’m Bella — a nature lover, coffee enthusiast, and cat mum to Meeka (or Meekie for short). I was born in Ireland and grew up between Japan and Australia with my parents and three siblings. I also have a twin sister, and while we’re identical, we couldn’t be more different — she’s studying Dentistry, and I’ve made a home in Barcelona, immersed in the city’s creative scene.
With family spread across four countries, travel has become a big part of who I am. I’m definitely a fashion girl, but health and fitness are equally important. I love a good weights session and I’m currently deep in my Pilates princess era — nothing beats a hot Pilates class!
2. How would you describe your style in three words?
Effortless. Natural. Curated.
3. How did Shop Meekie first come to life?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve known three things: I wanted to live overseas, do something creative, and eventually build something of my own. Born in Ireland, I had the freedom to move to the UK right after school with my EU passport and began a Bachelor of Architecture. Architecture was hands-on and creative, but it didn’t ignite my passion.
Around that time, I found myself drawn to fashion, especially jewellery. I was always “borrowing” pieces from my mum’s collection and rarely seen without my fingers stacked full of rings. People started asking where my jewellery was from, which led me to take a few jewellery classes — and I completely fell in love. Combining creativity, independence, and my connection to nature, Meekie was born. Each piece is inspired by the places I’ve been and the beauty I’ve found along the way.
4. What is the story behind the name?
This part was surprisingly easy — inspired by my cat’s nickname, Meekie.
5. What inspires your designs most these days — colour, places, textures, or moments?
Nature is the greatest inspiration. Whether it’s a texture spotted on a walk, a favorite flower, or a landscape from my travels, every Meekie piece has a story.
6. How do you want people to feel when they wear something from Shop Meekie?
Free, effortlessly chic, and inspired.
7. What is a piece of jewellery you think everyone should own?
Definitely rings! They’re easy to swap out, and you can get super creative and personal with your ring stacks.
8. What drew you to Barcelona?
I visited the year before moving and loved it. When my lease was ending in Australia, it was the first place that came to mind. Honestly, it was a split-second decision, and my parents were initially not sold on the idea, but I followed my gut — a choice I’ll always be grateful for.
9. How does living there influence your creativity?
Barcelona’s landscapes — from beaches to mountains, golden sunsets to hidden gardens — inspire me every day. That inspiration translates into my rings through textures, tones, colours, and forms.
10. Your dream night in Barcelona — where are you, who is with you, and what are you wearing?
Dressed up in a Carrie Bradshaw-inspired dress or skirt and top combo, paired with vintage kitten heels and my Meekie rings, drinking Aperol with good company and a view I’ll never forget.
